Research Scientist II - Cellular and Molecular Biology

Biography

I am a biologist with a PhD in Biology obtained in 2016 at the University of Barcelona, Spain. I have expertise in in vitro biocompatibility testing of biomaterials, medical devices, plant extracts and bioactive natural compounds and in the development of in vitro experimental models for the evaluation of biological activity of biomaterials, such as antioxidant, regenerative, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative or gastroprotective activity. I also have experience in the development of co-culture systems using different cell types and cell-probiotic co-culture systems, as well as in molecular biology, immunofluorescence, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry techniques.

We investigated host-parasite interactions, in particular the interaction between birds and feather mites at morphological, ecological and evolutionary levels. We made morphological and genetic identifications of feather mites and contributed to the description of new mite species.

During my 18 years of experience in research, development and innovation, I have been involved in national and international research projects both as a director and as a member of the research team and have published as lead author or co-author more than 35 articles indexed in ISI or BDI databases and 11 national patents/patent applications.
