Romania coordinates its first ERIC!

DANUBIUS-RI becomes strategic European infrastructure for river-sea ecosystem research!

The European Commission has formally approved the granting of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) International Centre for the Advanced Study of River-Sea Systems, known by its acronym DANUBIUS-RI. This is the first time that Romania coordinates such an organisation, a consortium at European level, and it is a strategic step to strengthen the integration of national research in pan-European scientific networks.

A decisive step for environmental research in Europe

The establishment of the ERIC marks a major milestone in the development of DANUBIUS-RI, an infrastructure that was included in the Roadmap of the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) in 2016, through a joint effort of the Romanian scientific community coordinated by the National Institute of Marine Geology and Geoecology (GeoEcoMar), the National Research and Development Institute for Biological Sciences, the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research and the Romanian Academy.
