Restoring priority grassland habitats in Slovakia and Romania

Description

DIVERSEED is a 7-year project dedicated to the restoration of priority grasslands in Slovakia and Romania in 33 Natura 2000 sites. It will restore 920 ha directly and a further 1200 ha indirectly, using innovative techniques of mapping and reseeding with local seeds, which are currently lacking in the two countries.
The project will work with farmers, authorities and NGOs, using traditional methods (grazing, mowing) and seeding to restore biodiversity. It will map declining grasslands in Romania and propose solutions to improve agri-environmental policies. Educational, volunteering and training activities will take place, and seed mixtures will be prepared for market introduction, ensuring replication of results.
