Suitable vegetal cover for improving the agro-ecosystem conditions of intensive apple orchards
Description
Today, thanks to its wide range of varieties and wide ecological plasticity, the apple is one of the most important apple species, both nationally and worldwide, cultivated on all continents.
SC "Mărul Argintiu" SRL Fălticeni, as an economic agent and partner in the project, owns an area of 50 ha of apple orchards, cultivated in intensive and super-intensive systems, a modern factory for the preparation of natural apple juices, as well as warehouses for storing fresh fruit under controlled storage conditions.
In apple-growing technology, a strategy is implemented whereby a green carpet is laid between the rows of trees, mainly made up of garmine trees, with the main aim of ensuring access for maintenance machinery, even after periods of rain
The main objective of the project is to improve the technology of apple orchard cultivation in intensive and super-intensive systems by adopting a seedbed in the cultivation system that is as suitable as possible to the physiological and production requirements of the plants, in order to increase the quality and quantity of the fruit harvest and economic efficiency.
As secondary objectives, the following are envisaged:
- the transfer of knowledge accumulated by academic and research specialists to the business world;
- increasing young people's vocational training and entrepreneurial skills;
- expanding and intensifying co-operation between research and business, with multiple and mutual benefits.
In order to achieve the proposed objectives, specific activities are planned to be carried out by highly trained and experienced specialists from two higher education and research units, namely, the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" Iasi and the Institute of Biological Research Iasi, a branch of INCDSB Bucharest.
