Complex exploitation of Black Sea bioresources through the development and application of innovative and emerging biotechnologies
Description
The field of natural products from marine species is becoming more and more scrutinised with the discovery of their functional properties with numerous beneficial effects on health, which differ depending on the geographical area from which they originate. In the context of abundant marine resources with insufficiently exploited therapeutic potential, the present proposal aims at the complex valorisation of the Black Sea bioresources by developing innovative technologies for the production of bioregenerative pharmaceutical/cosmeceutical preparations based on bioactive compounds from marine extracts encapsulated in nanostructured mesoporous matrices of functionalized silica, with controlled release, conditioned as bioadhesive membranes/discs. For a higher valorisation of Black Sea bioresources it is proposed that the residual biomass from the technological flow will be used as biostimulator for viticultural soils. New technologies will be developed both for the efficient extraction and preservation of the active principles by encapsulating them in nanostructured silica matrices, and for the pharmaceutical use to obtain modern, therapeutically/cosmetically effective formulations, tested in vitro. The project will be carried out by a multidisciplinary consortium formed by UOC, INCDM, UPB, INCDSB, with a new research centre with staff shortage, ICF-Romanian Academy and SCDVV Murtfatlar, which is in relaunch, which will jointly develop and use the existing and newly created infrastructure and human resources both through the implementation of the project and in the future, strengthening the institutional capacity of the partners by improving the service offer. The implementation of the project will raise the TRL level to 5. The aim of the complex project can be realised through the complementarity of the 5 component projects, the expected deliverables being the elaboration of 6 patent applications and new technologies for the manufacture of 3 synergistically acting pharmaceutical preparations that will be transferable to economic beneficiaries.
