Ana-Maria Prelipcean

Research Scientist II - Cellular and Molecular Biology

Biography

I am a researcher with a PhD in Materials Engineering with a focus on cell-material interactions, obtained in 2017 at INSA Lyon in Villeurbanne, France, in collaboration with ARI Davos Platz in Switzerland. I started my career as a research assistant at the Cellular and Molecular Department of the National Research and Development Institute for Biological Sciences in Bucharest, Romania, after which I received a Marie Curie fellowship in the European FP7 project, BioBone, in the group led by Mauro Alini (Musculoskeletal Regeneration Group, ARI Davos Platz, CH). During my PhD, I participated in multidisciplinary training, including a training session at Ceramtec Plochingen, a biomedical company in Germany, and training at INSA Lyon, with a focus on robocasting technology, as well as training in soft skills such as project management, supervision and leadership.

In 2017, I returned to INCDSB and since then I have focused on the following areas:

  1. Isolation, characterisation and optimisation of culture conditions for different cell types used in medical applications.
  2. Processing and characterisation of biomaterials and study of cell-material interactions.
  3. In vitro biocompatibility testing of medical devices and development of advanced in vitro models.
  4. The use of microbiological techniques to investigate therapeutic or prophylactic alternatives in pathogen control.

I have been involved in several collaborative projects with Italy, Switzerland, Canary Islands, Germany, Poland, France and Spain. As of 2022, I have become scientific director of the INCDSB. In addition, in 2023, I obtained a degree in project management from the National School of Political Science and Public Administration in Bucharest.

I am also a member of the Scientific Council of INCDSB and I am a member of the Body of Experts for the certification of R&D activity in the field of Advanced Functional Materials.
