Reform of the Romanian research system - a priority for Romania
The Director General of the National Research and Development Institute for Biological Sciences, Mrs Prof. Dr. Mihaela Marinela PĂUN, participated on 06 June 2022 in a working meeting initiated by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitisation, Minister Sebastian - Ioan Burduja, on the reforms in the field to be undertaken by Romania, according to the recommendations of the European Commission.
The meeting took place at the National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenic and Isotope Technologies in Râmnicu Vâlcea, one of the Romanian models of excellence in the field.
The Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization has put into public debate the National Plan for Research, Development and Innovation IV (PN IV) - the main instrument for implementing the National Strategy for Research, Innovation and Smart Specialization (SNCISI) 2022-2027, which ensures transparent and predictable funding of the national RDI system to modernize, strengthen excellence and increase the relevance of research for the Romanian economy. The documents on the basis of which the debates took place can be found at:
Mr Sebastian - Ioan Burduja, the Minister for Research, Innovation and Digitisation told the meeting: "Romanian research includes examples of excellence, with results at international level,... There is a need for solid, predictable funding, which ensures the preservation and promotion of Romanian researchers of value within these institutes in the country. At the same time, I would like to see an accelerated transfer of research results to the real economy in the coming years, which will give Romania the chance to develop and become more competitive in the medium and long term. The discussion was extremely useful, as the views expressed by representatives of the National Research and Development Institutes were vital for finalising the optimal shape of the National Plan."
