Innovative nanostructured nutraceuticals with synergistic bioactivities for hepato-digestive protection
Description
The project aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of selected plant extracts, plant phytocompounds from concentrates obtained from wild cherry fruit - Prunus avium var. sylvestris (L.), from the by-product of grape marc (Vitis vinifera L.), from blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.) and barley germ (Hordeum vulgare L.).
Mixtures of these plant products will be encapsulated in mesoporous silica matrices and associated with Lactobacillus sp. Variants of innovative nanostructured nutraceuticals with synergistic bioactivities obtained in this project will be analysed and selected according to their in vitro hepato- and gastrointestinal protective capacity.
The biological properties of the active compounds in the proposed fruit extracts, as well as the specific properties of a nanomatrix, barley germ biomass and Lactobacillus sp. strains, show significant potential to lead to the development of a new generation of alternative nutraceutical products based on natural bioactive compounds from indigenous plant resources, aimed at improving the condition of patients with liver or biliary disorders associated with flatulence, diarrhoea, intestinal transit disorders.
